As a general rule, statuses related to vehicle (wheel-end) health can be reset, whereas statuses indicating device operational failures cannot be reset and typically require device replacement.
An exception applies to when the device is mounted in the reversed position. This status does not indicate hardware failure, but incorrect installation. The issue can be resolved by reinstalling the device in the correct orientation.
Device behaviour & reset or replacement options
Column descriptions:
- Duration – Indicates how long a state remains active. Some states are automatically cleared after a defined period. States marked with an asterisk (*) are persistently included in the data frame.
- LED Indicators – Specifies whether the device LEDs signal the current state. LEDs are active only when the vehicle is stationary. For further details, see section 4.12 LED Blinking and section 4.8 Changing Mode Description in the TraX Technical Specification.
- Reset by App – Indicates whether the state can be cleared using the TraX mobile app.
- Replace Device – Indicates whether the hardware must be replaced.

Other common symptoms of device failure
In addition to the alarm states listed above, common symptoms of device failure may include:
- No data transmission from the device
- LED does not illuminate when activated with a magnet
- Damaged or broken metal baseplate
Reset options in the TraX Mobile App
The TraX mobile app provides two reset-related options, each serving a distinct purpose.
Option 1: Resetting an alarm
The Reset Sensor function:
- Clears all active alarms
- Deletes all stored temperature data
- Does not affect the device configuration
Not all alarm states are eligible for reset (see table above).
For detailed instructions, refer to section 6.12 – Resetting the Sensor in the User Manual.
Option 2: Removing and recommissioning a device
The Remove Sensor function:
- Disconnects the device from the SKF platform
- Does not change the device’s operational state
To fully reset and restore default configuration, the device must be recommissioned. However:
- The reset is temporary
- A new configuration is automatically applied after recommissioning
- It is not possible to perform a factory reset and leave the device unconfigured
Replacing a device
Follow the steps below to replace a device:
- Order a replacement device.
- Remove the failed device from the vehicle.
- Refer to section 4 in the User Manual for mounting instructions.
- Refer to section 6.13 in the User Manual for activation instructions.
